Constipation is a common issue for children with special needs. There is a tip sheet with advice on ways to prevent and manage this problem. Not wanting to do poo in the toilet is another common challenge parents may need to deal with. The tip sheet Won't sit to poo gives advice on how to move your child from using nappies for poo to sitting on the toilet to do poo.

Being able to go to the toilet independantly is an important life skill.  You may have 'put off' toilet training or believe that is is not possible for to train your child because of their special needs. But given the right kind of help children with special needs can learn to manage going to the toilet either completely on their own or with some assistance.
