Awareness of Incontinence in Ethnic Communities

The report Awareness of Incontinence in Ethnic Communities was developed as part of a project which aimed to identify continence perceptions, needs and issues amoung ethnic communities. The project was funded by the Victorian Government Department of Health, Aged Care Branch and the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation.

The ten ethnic communities consulted include Arabic speaking, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Macedonian, Spanish speaking, Polish, Russian, Turkish and Vietnamese.

Key findings from the consultation are highlighted in the report around the themes of knowledge and awareness of incontinence, quality of life impacts and management of incontinence.

Several recommendations are made for improving access to information and education and raising awareness within ethnic communities.

VCRC would like to acknowledge and thank the members of the advisory group that informed the project and assisted with organising the focus groups within the respective communities.
